Why Gourd Products?

Historically Correct: Gourds are Nature’s ultimate containers. For many centuries native peoples have recognized the value of gourds for birding success.

Reproductive Success: Years of research by the Purple Martin Conservation Association has shown that martins have higher reproductive success in gourds than in any other type of housing. Gourds provide martins with roomier accommodations and afford more protection from predators and weather than other types of housing.

Safe and Comfortable Environment: Gourds are naturally insulated, so temperature extremes are less of a concern than with other housing.

Durability: Gourds properly cared for will give many years of service and enjoyment. As needed, a new coat of varnish or paint may be added for maintenance.

In our experience, birds much prefer gourd bird feeders to other types. Birds feed from either entrance or sit inside and find safety by being able to escape from possible predators.

Purple Martin Gourd Birdhouse

A wonderful idea borrowed from Native Americans who many centuries ago used gourds for martin birdhouses. Martins immediately recognize and are attracted to gourd nesting boxes. Insulating properties of gourds provide a more comfortable environment for these delightful birds. Each birdhouse is equipped with hanging holes and drainage holes. Entrance hole is 2 1/8”.

Fly-Through Gourd Bird Feeder
